Short-distance running competition for teenagers to prevent fights during Ramadan
JAKARTA - Short-distance running races at night during Ramadan have become the latest trend among teenagers in a number of areas in Jakarta. This new trend has also had a positive impact on society.
As seen in the Pademangan area, North Jakarta. Dozens of teenagers ranging in age from 10 to 25 years old were seen enthusiastically participating in a running race known as the 'fun night run' in the Pademangan area, North Jakarta. They came from every RT and RW area.
The inter-teenage running competition was finally facilitated by the Pademangan Police to avoid potential disturbances of security, public order, and friction between individuals as well as traffic flow disturbances.
The head of the Pademangan Police, AKP Daniel Dirgala, said the fun night run activity was carried out based on the dynamics that developed in the Pademangan community.
"Short-distance running racing activities are often carried out spontaneously by young people at night during Ramadan, but without clear regulations. Given the condition, it has the potential to cause security disturbances, we also facilitate and coordinate so that it is orderly according to applicable laws," said AKP Daniel when confirmed by VOI, Saturday, March 7, 2026.
The activity was held on Jalan GOR Pademangan, RW 12, Kelurahan Pademangan Barat, Kecamatan Pademangan, North Jakarta. The number of participants who ran was 40 local teenagers.
"The participants who took part in the short-distance running race were Pademangan teenagers and they were not rioters," he said.
In addition, the police have also provided ambulances to anticipate participants who are injured while participating in the short-distance running competition.
The police chief appealed to teenagers to avoid fights because it is not beneficial for themselves or others.
"It's better to follow the fun night run activities at the Pademangan Police than a brawl that has no benefit. The winners of the running race will be given prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place," he said.
