Ambon Police Station Names Suspect in Unpatti Student Stabbing
Ambon - Ambon Island and Lease Islands Police have named a suspect with the initials MRM in the alleged stabbing case of a student of Pattimura University (Unpatti) with the initials DHL in the Three House area, Teluk Ambon District, Ambon City.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Ambon and Lease Islands Police, Kompol Androyuan Elim, said the suspect had been secured and was currently undergoing legal proceedings.
"This case was reported through Police Report Number LP/B/14/II/2026/SPKT/Sek Teluk Ambon/Polresta Ambon/Polda Maluku dated February 27, 2026," he said as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, March 7.
He explained that the suspect was suspected of violating Article 466 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code with a five-year imprisonment and/or Article 466 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code with a two-year six-month imprisonment or fine.
According to him, the incident began with a meeting of the Student Representative Council (DPMF) of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Unpatti which triggered a debate between pro and anti-student groups regarding the discussed activities.
"The debate then led to a clash between two groups of students in the parking area of Building B FEB Unpatti. The commotion continued with the action of chasing each other until they left the campus area towards the Three House area," he said.
Kompol Androyuan explained that the suspect MRM who was at his boarding house in the Poka Pemda III area received information that his brother was beaten by a group of students.
Due to emotions, the suspect then took a kitchen knife from his boarding house and put it on the motorcycle seat before heading to the scene.
"When they arrived at the location, the suspect and his colleagues were again involved in a mutual mocking action with another group of students until a chase towards the Rumah Tiga highway. The knife on the motorcycle seat was then taken by his colleague and used while chasing the group of students to the Gandaria alley," he said.
After being dragged by residents, the group dispersed. However, while standing next to the Rumah Tiga convenience store, the suspect and his group again faced a group of people who triggered a fight.
"In an emotional state and thinking that the group was the party who beat his brother, the suspect MRM stabbed the victim DHL twice," he said.
After the incident, the suspect only realized that the victim who was stabbed was his own acquaintance.
As a result of the stabbing, the victim suffered stab wounds to the back and left waist and is currently undergoing treatment at the Leimena Ambon General Hospital.
In handling the case, he said, investigators had examined 18 witnesses, including three witnesses who had seen the incident directly, carried out crime scene investigations, collected CCTV footage and videos from the surrounding community, and seized a number of evidence.
The evidence seized included video footage and the victim's and suspect's clothes.
"Investigators have also conducted a case title for the determination of suspects as well as arrests and detentions of suspects," he said.
The police also revealed that after the incident, the suspect admitted his actions to a witness who then helped throw the knife used behind the fence of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Unpatti.
