THR and Eid Homecoming Boost Interest in Buying Used Cars

JAKARTA - The Indonesian automotive market has a climate that is quite different from previous years, at a time when new vehicle sales are weakening, used vehicle sales recorded an increase of up to 6 percent in January 2026.

Director of OLXmobbi, Agung Iskandar said that with the presence of the Idulfitri celebration which is still in the early days of this year, it will further increase vehicle sales in the used segment.

"In the 2025 Lebaran period, the interest in used cars on OLX and the sale of used cars on OLXmobbi both increased significantly a week after Lebaran. On OLX, the interest increased by 22 percent, while on OLXmobbi, the number of buyers also returned to near the normal sales average", said Agung Iskandar quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 7.

Looking at the momentum of last year's Lebaran, OLXmobbi recorded a fairly positive demand. In the week before the Lebaran celebration, the realization of used car sales on OLXmobbi rose to 24 percent.

According to Agung, there are several supporting factors for increased vehicle sales in the period approaching Lebaran. The first supporting factor is because workers have received the Eid Bonus (THR).

With the receipt of THR, usually prospective consumers are more daring to buy used vehicles that they have been looking for for a long time.

"This motivates them to prepare comfortable vehicles for homecoming and socializing with relatives during Eid," he said.

OLX noted that the public has a fairly high interest in several types of vehicles offered on OLX.

For the Lebaran edition, the type of vehicle most sought after by prospective consumers is the MPV type with a percentage of 22.2 percent followed closely by SUVs at 21.7 percent, and hatchbacks at 17 percent.

The most sought-after models include the Toyota Kijang Innova, Toyota Avanza, Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V, and Honda HR-V. In terms of brands, Toyota still leads the market loyalty, followed by Honda and Suzuki in the next position.
