JK: Indonesia Harus Bersikap Tegas terhadap Konflik Iran

JAKARTA - The 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Indonesia as the largest Muslim country in the world, should have a firm stance on conflicts involving Iran, especially if the country is attacked.

JK menyebut Indonesia perlu menunjukkan keberpihakan terhadap negara yang menjadi korban serangan.

He assessed that this attitude was important so that Indonesia would remain consistent in encouraging cooperation with countries in the Asian region and the Islamic world.

"As a country that is attacked and persecuted, Indonesia must have a stance. Logically, we must side with the attacked country," said JK as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, March 7.

JK added that Indonesia's position as the largest Muslim country in the world is expected to have a clear position in responding to conflicts involving Islamic countries.

In addition, JK assessed that Indonesia should not be neutral without showing its bias. And the conflict should be discussed and a solution should be found in international forums such as the Board of Peace.

"If it cannot be resolved through a peace forum, what are we doing to be part of it. This means that Indonesia must voice its stance firmly," said JK in a statement received in Jakarta, Saturday.

This statement was made in the context of increasing geopolitical tensions involving a number of countries in the Middle East region, at a joint opening with members of the Islamic Student Association Alumni Corps (KAHMI) during a joint fast-breaking meal in the Jakarta area on Friday, March 6.
