Persebaya Ambitious to Stop Bad Record in Borneo FC's Nest

JAKARTA - Persebaya Surabaya coach Bernardo Tavares said his team is ambitious to stop the bad record when they travel to Borneo FC's headquarters at Segiri Stadium, Samarinda, Saturday, March 7 evening.

Tavares explained that he knew that Persebaya Surabaya had not won in Segiri for almost seven years.

Seeing this condition, the Portuguese coach paid great attention to the details of his team's game because he was aware that Persebaya Surabaya's record when playing in Samarinda was not in favor of Bajol Ijo.

"If you look at the history of the meeting between Borneo and Persebaya, the last time Persebaya won in Samarinda was on June 23, 2019, almost seven years ago. That's a very long time. It means that Borneo is very strong when playing at home," explained Tavares as quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 7.

Persebaya Surabaya last won at home to Borneo in 2019 and when Bajul Ijo managed to pack a narrow 2-1 victory, it was still their only win in recent years at Segiri.

Tavares admitted that Borneo FC is one of the teams that are difficult to defeat in this season's competition and Pesut Etam's strength is seen from the consistency of the game and the ability to achieve positive results, including when playing away.

The Portuguese coach added that he asked his players to be wary of Borneo FC's strength.

"We know that Borneo is a strong team, we saw their last match, and we saw the good results they got at home against Persija," explained Tavares.

"For us, the most important thing is to play as a team with a good attitude and focus for 90 minutes," he concluded.
