Real Madrid Dramatically Wins over Celta Vigo, Tightens Barcelona
JAKARTA - Real Madrid won a dramatic 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo in the 27th week of the 2025/26 Spanish League at the Abanca Balaidos Stadium on Saturday morning WIB.
Aurelien Tchouameni gave Real Madrid the lead before being equalised by Borja Iglesias. Federico Valverde's goal in injury time secured three points for Alvaro Arbeloa's team.
This result makes Madrid able to continue to stick to Barcelona at the top of the standings. Vinicius et al currently have 63 points, only one point behind Barcelona who will face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, March 8 early morning WIB.
Meanwhile, Celta Vigo is in sixth place with 40 points, as reported by the official LaLiga website.
Quoted by Antara, Madrid immediately took the lead in the 11th minute. Starting from Arda Guler's cross, Tchouameni finished it with a lob shot that went to the left corner of the goal and could not be reached by Celta's goalkeeper, Ionut Radu.
However, the advantage did not last long. Celta Vigo managed to equalize in the 25th minute through Borja Iglesias.
The goal started from Williot Swedberg's action who passed Trent Alexander-Arnold before sending a pull pass which was completed by Iglesias in front of the Madrid goal. The score became 1-1.
Towards the end of the first half, Swedberg almost brought the hosts back to a lead. However, his shot in the 45th minute was still able to be deflected by Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Entering the second half, both teams created opportunities. Courtois made another important save when he thwarted Ferran Jutgla's shot in the 60th minute.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid threatened with a long-range shot from Vinicius, but the ball was still easily secured by Radu.
Another chance came from Antonio Rudiger through a corner situation in the 78th minute. Unfortunately, he was not able to score a goal.
Celta almost scored the winning goal in the 87th minute when Iago Aspas fired a left foot shot after beating one Madrid defender. However, the ball only hit the crossbar.
When the match seemed to be a draw, Madrid scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute.
Federico Valverde took advantage of a loose ball in front of the penalty box before firing from outside the penalty area which hit Celta defender and turned into the left corner, deceiving Radu.
The goal ensured a 2-1 victory for Real Madrid until the final whistle.
