Minister of Foreign Affairs: Azerbaijan Withdraws Diplomatic Staff from Iran

JAKARTA - Azerbaijan has withdrawn its diplomatic staff from Iran, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

"President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has decided to completely withdraw diplomatic personnel from Iran. This process concerns the embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Tabriz. Currently, work is being done in this direction," Bayramov said, quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Saturday, March 7.

On Thursday, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that the drone attack was carried out from Iranian territory into the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, injuring four people.

Following the attack, Aliyev said in a meeting of the security council of the armed forces, the country's border service, and special forces units were deployed in full alert.

On February 28, 2026, the US and Israel launched a series of attacks on a number of targets inside Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and casualties among civilians.

Iranian state television confirmed the martyrdom of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of the attack.

Iran then responded to the military aggression by launching missile attacks on Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
