Police Shoot Telkom Battery Thief Worth IDR 1 Billion

KENDARI - The police shot a young man with the initials Y (20) in the leg for trying to escape during his arrest. Y fled after stealing PT Telkom batteries worth Rp1 billion.

Muna Police Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Hamka, said Y was one of three perpetrators of theft of BTS batteries at the PT Telkom Network Transmitter office, in Raimuna Village, Maligano District, Muna Regency on May 18. The other two perpetrators have the initials AR and S.

"On Monday, May 31, 2021, the Muna Police Sat Reskrim Opsnal Team conducted an investigation into the whereabouts of suspects Y and S. Then they received information that suspect Y was temporarily in the Jalan Gatot Subroto area, Raha," said Hamka, quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 3.

After investigating, the police then raided a house on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Sidodadi Village, Muna.

During the arrest, Y escaped by jumping through the kitchen window, so that at that time the police fired warning shots three times but were ignored.

"So that decisive, measurable action was taken and hit the suspect's right leg, after being arrested the suspect was taken to the Raha Regional Hospital for medical treatment," said Hamka.

Currently two of the three perpetrators suspected of committing the theft with the weight, namely AR and Y, have been arrested by the police. Meanwhile, another suspect, the initials S, is still being pursued.

"Suspect Y has been detained for a period of 20 days starting from June 1-20 2021. Meanwhile, suspect AR has been detained at the Res Muna Rutan since May 20, 2021, who was first arrested on May 19," he explained.

The theft occurred on May 18. The three suspects stole 40 BTS batteries, 2 batteries, 1 battery charger.

The perpetrator entered by destroying the entrance to the building/room where PT Telkom batteries and batteries are stored in Raimuna Village, Maligano District, Muna.

The three suspects cut the connecting cable between the battery and the battery cable and then lifted him out of the building and so on

transported out gradually to be temporarily hidden in several places by using a Toyota Avanza DT 1042 FD.

"That resulted in PT Telkom Muna experiencing losses with an estimate of around Rp 1 billion," said Hamka.
