Israel Claims Its Fighter Jet Destroyed the Underground Bunker of the Late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

JAKARTA - The Israeli military on Friday said its fighter jets had "destroyed" an underground bunker intended to be used as a command center by late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"The underground military bunker, located under the regime's leadership complex in the center of Tehran, is intended to be used by the supreme leader of the Iranian regime as a safe emergency command center," the Israeli military said, citing Al Arabiya from AFP (6/3).

"Khamenei was killed before he could use the bunker during the 'Roaring Lion' operation, but the complex continues to be used by senior Iranian regime officials," he continued.

The Israeli military said about 50 fighter jets were involved in the attack on the underground network stretching across "several streets in the heart of Tehran."

Khamenei was killed at his leadership compound on Saturday, the first day of a US-Israeli joint offensive that triggered the Middle East war.

The Pentagon later said Israel's attack killed him, while US President Donald Trump said it was partly thanks to US intelligence.

On Thursday, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, said: "In just 40 seconds, about 40 senior officials of the Iranian terror regime have been eliminated, including the leader of the regime, (Ayatollah) Ali Khamenei."
