Iran Postpones Election of Supreme Leader with Security Reasons

JAKARTA - Iran has postponed the election of a successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for security reasons, according to the New York Times citing sources.

Reported by ANTARA, the delay was related to concerns about the safety of the son of the assassinated ayatollah, Mojtaba Khamenei, with increasing information in Tehran through Mojtaba's media that he would be his father's successor.

In addition, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday said Iran's new leader would be an "unconditional target to be eliminated" by the Israeli army.

The United States and Israel have launched a series of attacks targeting Iranian territory since Saturday, including Tehran, which caused damage and casualties.

The attack also led to the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which was confirmed by state media.

Iran then retaliated by targeting Israeli territory, and a number of US military facilities in the Middle East.
