Athlete Scholarship Is UBL's Main Focus to Produce Athletes with Achievement and Education

JAKARTA - Budi Luhur University (UBL) continues to strengthen the athlete scholarship program as one of the strategies to produce high-achieving athletes and graduates with a high level of education.

This program is part of the campus' commitment to providing access to education for national and regional athletes so that they can continue to study while pursuing their sports careers.

The Rector of Budi Luhur University, Prof. Dr. Agus Setyo Budi, M.Sc., explained that the athlete scholarship has become a strong identity of the campus in supporting the development of sports with the most complete sports branch among other private universities.

"Athlete scholarships are our mascots. The branches are quite complete, badminton, pencak silat, volleyball, futsal, taekwondo, football, e-sports, basketball, karate, rock climbing, and archery," said Agus.

So far, many athletes from Budi Luhur University have often become the mainstay of the region in various national sports events. The existence of these athletes shows that the campus is not only focused on academic education, but also seriously coaching sports achievements.

Agus said that the Regional Government, especially DKI Jakarta, often makes athletes from Budi Luhur University as part of the team that will compete in major events such as the National Sports Week (PON).

"This is a subscription if the DKI Jakarta province needs athletes, let's say for the PON, it must contact Budi Luhur University, but of course through national selection," he said.

This athlete scholarship program also opens opportunities for athletes who have recorded international achievements to continue their higher education. One of them is the national archer Ahmad Khoirul Basith who joined Budi Luhur University after winning a medal at the 2022 Asian Games.

Basith revealed that the opportunity to study at the campus came after he won a bronze medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. This achievement made him get an offer to join as a student with the support of an athlete scholarship.

"At first I was able to enter because I got a bronze medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, I was offered. Then I tried to register and there was an athlete scholarship, but for archery that day there was none so I requested," said Basith.

In addition to developing an athlete scholarship program, Budi Luhur University also strengthens various academic and international programs to improve the quality of education.

This campus has established cooperation with a number of universities in Japan, Turkey, South Korea, and China Taipei through student exchange programs, joint research, and professional internship activities.

UBL also implements an outcome-based education (OBE) curriculum that is combined with national and international professional certifications. With this approach, students not only gain academic knowledge, but also practical skills that are globally recognized.

Through various programs, Budi Luhur University emphasizes the philosophy of education in Building a Smart Generation with Good Manners. This philosophy is realized through strengthening academic intelligence, character formation, increasing global competitiveness, and developing collaboration and innovation skills.

In its development roadmap, UBL targets global expansion through wider international cooperation in the period 2026-2029. Furthermore, this campus targets itself to become a research university and community service with global standards in 2030-2055.
