Prabowo Emphasizes RI's Decision to Join the Peace Board through a Long Process
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that his decision to bring Indonesia to join the member states of the Peace Council (Board of Peace/BoP) was carried out through a long process and discussed with the leaders of the Gulf region.
The Chairman of the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah for Economic, Business, and Halal Industry, Muhadjir Effendy, said the statement was delivered by President Prabowo in a meeting and breaking the fast with ulama, heads of community organizations and heads of pesantren who took place in the middle yard of the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, March 5, evening.
"He emphasized that his involvement in the BoP was not immediate, but had gone through a long process, had been discussed with several heads of state in the region, especially the Gulf region, who then agreed to join," said Muhadjir.
During the meeting which lasted more than three hours, President Prabowo gave a detailed explanation about Indonesia's membership in the BoP, especially in the midst of the escalation of the conflict in Iran involving the United States and Israel.
Prabowo, said Muhadjir, emphasized that his involvement in the BoP was a strategy that had been chosen which he called as fighting from within or "strategy from within".
Prabowo chose this strategy as a form of Indonesia's struggle in an effort to create peace and recognition of Palestinian independence from within the BoP forum.
"The strategy he chose is what is called 'strategy from within'. So after we have been outside for a long time, we are now trying to fight from within," said Muhadjir.
However, he believes that Prabowo's decision to join the BoP remains within the constitutional corridor and the 1945 Constitution which emphasizes independence over Palestine.
In addition, the Indonesian Government is also committed to realizing peace through the Two-State Solution between Palestine and Israel, as well as the points of agreement in the BoP.
"We must continue to strive for whatever the risks are, whatever the consequences are, the effort to build a free Palestine must be realized. And it is stated in the 20-point agreement, in points 19 and 20 it is clear that the goal of the BoP is the creation of the Palestinian state coexisting with Israel," he said.
