Reconstruction Of Buildings Damaged By The West Sulawesi Earthquake Reaches 54 Percent

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works for Public Housing (PUPR) has completed 54.53 percent of the construction of restoration of buildings damaged by the earthquake that occurred in Sulawesi in January.

The total budget requirement for handling infrastructure after the earthquake disaster in West Sulawesi is IDR 856.8 billion which is divided into two years, 2021 and 2022.

In total, 96 buildings were damaged by the earthquake. Now, the number of building units that have been completed is 52 buildings.

"The PUPR Ministry handled 96 buildings affected by the earthquake, consisting of 56 government buildings, 29 health facility buildings, 2 state university buildings, 2 worship facilities, 5 flats, and 2 drinking water installations," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat website, Thursday, June 3.

Basuki said that there were a number of post-disaster management steps carried out in West Sulawesi. Initially, opening up access to Majene and Mamuju connectivity was a priority effort. Second, cleaning debris. Third, the provision of evacuation support facilities.

Then to ensure safety, all buildings will be technically audited for their feasibility, especially government buildings and housing that are still standing.

"The goal is to determine whether the building is still feasible or not, even though it looks good at first glance. If it is still suitable for use, then it is enough to renovate it a bit," said Basuki.

Of the 96 buildings, which were recorded as damaged, 90 units of the building are already in the process of being handled through an emergency response mechanism towards recovery. The remaining 6 units of the building will be handled on a regular basis.

Basuki said, of the buildings whose construction has been completed, 18 buildings have been handed over to utilization.

The handover of the use of the building that has been carried out includes the handover of the management of the STAIN Majene lecture building (lecture building) on May 31.

Then, there was the handover of the utilization of the Malunda Health Center (front 2nd floor building, emergency room and inpatient building, maternity and lactation room building, MCH room, nutrition room, family planning room, postpartum room, medicine warehouse, hall, and TB laboratory) and sub-health centers (Pustu) Lombong Maluda on June 1.

Furthermore, the PUPR Ministry will also handle 41 public schools and 3 state madrasah, including 10 state schools in the heavily damaged category that received the Special Allocation Fund (DAK), after the first relocation of DAK objects.
