All England 2026: Jonatan Christie knocked out in the second round
JAKARTA - Jonatan Christie's singles journey at the 2026 All England ended in the second round. He picked up his suitcase after losing to Lin Chun Yi from China Taipei.
Jonatan, who is the fourth seed in this tournament, had to admit his opponent in the two-game match 19-21 and 12-21 at the Utilita Arena Birmingham, England, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, afternoon WIB.
"Praise God, I am still grateful even though the final result is not what I expected, but I feel I have done my best. Lin Chun-Yi played very well today too," said Jonatan after the match.
The match was intense before the first game break. Jonatan, who was 6-9 behind, managed to catch up and tie the score at 11-11. However, Lin scored five consecutive points after that and could not be caught.
Jonatan also resisted in 10 points at the beginning of the second game so that the score could be as strong as 5-5. However, Lin even rose and was five points ahead at the break so that his journey went more smoothly after that.
"He played much faster, and he also had some variations of shots that were quite difficult, and it was not easy to shut down. So, maybe from that I was less calm, less able to be more patient," said Jonatan.
This is Lin's third consecutive victory over Jonatan and makes their win-loss record the same as 3-3. He won the other two victories in the final round of the 2026 India Open in January and the second round of the 2025 China Masters.
In addition, this is also Jonatan's shortest journey from the three tournaments he has participated in this year's calendar. He previously managed to reach the semifinals at the BWF Super 1000 Malaysia Open and became runner-up at the India Open.
