Gus Yahya: Indonesia Harus Manfaatkan BoP Hentikan Perang

JAKARTA - The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama General Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf assessed that Indonesia needs to utilize all the instruments it has to encourage the creation of peace amid the escalation of global conflicts.

He conveyed this at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Thursday, March 5, responding to Indonesia's position in the Board of Peace (BoP) in safeguarding peace in Palestine.

"We are looking for ways to use the BoP for peace efforts," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

Gus Yahya said that various available mechanisms must be used to the fullest to support peace efforts.

He likened the effort to someone who had to dig a hole but didn't have a shovel. According to him, if only a spoon is available, then that's what the spoon should be used for.

"If we need to dig a hole and there is no scope, the spoon is there, we dig with a spoon like that. That's about it," he said.

Gus Yahya emphasized that this approach illustrates the importance of utilizing any existing instruments, for a greater purpose, namely stopping the conflict and realizing peace.

According to him, even something that seems small or weak should not be ignored if it can still be used to help the peace process.

"We use whatever it takes because the interest for peace is absolute," he said.

He emphasized that all parties need to maximize every opportunity and instrument available to stop the war.
