NU Urges War to Stop Immediately, Gus Yahya: If Not, No One Will Be Safe

NU urges the war to stop immediately. This was conveyed by the General Chair of PBNU KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya) after breaking the fast together with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. He said the international situation was very worrying.

Gus Yahya said the President is likely to explain a number of important things, including the strategic steps taken by the government in the domestic and international context.

He also said the President could share views with figures and scholars regarding the latest developments in global dynamics.

When asked about NU's stance on the war, Gus Yahya answered firmly. There is no choice but to stop the war now. "We have no choice but to fight as hard as possible to stop the war. Peace now. There is no other alternative. Because if you don't, no one will survive," he said firmly, Thursday, March 5.

Regarding the President's condolences, Gus Yahya considered it natural. "His name is a person who died, yes, we express our condolences. But NU also expresses condolences," he said.

However, according to him, the most important thing is to work as hard as possible to stop violence and establish peace. "We must stop this violence immediately by any means possible," he said.

Unlike the voices that encourage Indonesia to stay away from the Board of Peace (BoP), Gus Yahya actually asked that the forum be used as much as possible to encourage peace.

"Yes, we are looking for ways to use BoP for peace efforts," said Gus Yahya. He gave an analogy: "If we need to dig a hole, there is no scope, it has a spoon, we dig with a spoon."

According to him, something that seems weak must still be used if it can help stop violence. "We use whatever it takes for the sake of peace is absolute," he said.
