Iran Forms Interim Government Following Khamenei's Death

JAKARTA - Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, stated that a three-member interim government body had been formed to lead the country, following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, until a new leader was elected.

"A new body has been formed consisting of three people. So they will be responsible until the new leader is elected. They are working to prepare the ground for the election of the new leader," Takht-Ravanchi told reporters as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, February 5.

Earlier this week, a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts, Mohsen Qomi, who is tasked with choosing the country's leader, said the process of selecting the new supreme leader is underway.

Mahmoud Rajabi, a member of the presidium of the state body, said on March 4 that final information on the results of the election would be announced by the secretariat of the Expert Assembly.

Meanwhile, the US is considering a military operation against Iran that could last at least 100 days or until September, the newspaper Politico reported.

On Wednesday (4/3), US War Minister Pete Hegseth again revised the schedule for military operations against Iran to eight weeks from the previous four to five weeks.

US President Donald Trump previously set a deadline of four to five weeks to complete an attack on Iran, if necessary.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) has requested additional military intelligence officers to its headquarters in Tampa, Florida, to support Iran-related operations, the newspaper said, citing internal Pentagon documents.
