JAKARTA - The government has begun focusing on plans to build solar power plants (PLTS) for villages. Minister of Investment and Industrialization/CEO of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani said that from the large target of 100 gigawatt, the initial priority is around 13 gigawatt for areas that already have an electricity distribution network.

"From 100 gigawatt to 13 gigawatt first, which is planned to be prioritized," said Rosan after a meeting with reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Rosan also said that there were investments that had entered since 2025 to build factories related to the PLTS project. The value is US$1.4 billion and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2026. He said the plant has a capacity of 50 megawatts, and in the same explanation he also mentioned the figure of 50 gigawatt. "The investment of 1.4 billion dollars starts in 2025 mid-year and the target will be completed by the end of 2026," he said. Rosan emphasized that the investment was FDI (Foreign Direct Investment).

On the field execution side, Rosan said Danantara already had an initial example. "From Danantara there is already one prototype in the Sumenep area that has just been completed at 1 megawatt," he said. The prototype, according to Rosan, will be reviewed by a team, including from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Education and Technology, to see the opportunities for expansion (roll out).
