Janice Immediately Lost in the First Round of Indian Wells 2026
JAKARTA - Janice Tjen immediately suffered a defeat in the first round of the 2026 Indian Wells after she failed to maintain the lead in the deciding set against Jaqueline Cristian, a Romanian player.
The Indonesian mainstay suffered a defeat in a three-set match that ended with a score of 6-4, 4-6, and 6-7 (8) in Indian Wells, California, USA on Thursday, March 5, 2026, afternoon WIB or Wednesday night local time.
The fight between the two names was hot since the first set. Janice lost a service so he was 3-4 behind, but immediately managed to bounce back and secure the next three games to outperform his opponent.
At the start of the second set, Jaqueline appeared more aggressive and managed to quickly take a 5-1 lead. Janice, who lost two serves during the period, then bounced back and scored three consecutive points, but he eventually failed to win two sets in a row.
Janice then took a 3-0 lead in the deciding set after converting one of two break points in the second game and making good use of his two serves. Jaqueline then got up and converted two of six break points to identify the score.
The match was so intense after that. Janice managed to lead three times, but always managed to be equalized by his opponent. He then immediately went to a 3-0 tiebreak and lost four serves to lose.
Even though he was eliminated in the singles, Janice still has hope in the women's doubles sector - a number that he does not want to leave to focus on singles. He will play with Hao-Ching Chan from China Taipei in that sector.
In the first round, they will meet Katarzyna Piter from Poland and Andreja Klepac from Slovenia. Piter is Janice's previous tandem, a duet that produced the 2026 WTA Hobart International 250 and 2025 WTA Guangzhou Open 250 titles.
Indian Wells is the third WTA 1000 tournament that Janice has played in this year's calendar. He previously appeared at the Qatar Open (lost in the second round) and the Dubai Championship (lost in the third round).
