Xiaomi 17 Max Expected to Launch in May, Featuring Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 8,000mAh Battery

JAKARTA - Xiaomi is said to be preparing to launch its latest flagship phone, the Xiaomi 17 Max, with a release schedule that is now expected to shift to May 2026 in the Chinese market. This information surfaced from a number of recent leaks on Chinese social media, which said the device would be one of the first phones with the latest generation chipset from Qualcomm.

This device is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, an upper-class chipset that is expected to bring significant CPU and GPU performance improvements over the previous generation, as well as optimization of artificial intelligence on the device. Until now, Xiaomi has not given official confirmation regarding the specifications or launch date.

In terms of screen, the Xiaomi 17 Max is said to carry a 6.9-inch flat OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is also reportedly equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor inside the screen. This device is said to run Android 16-based HyperOS 3 when released.

The camera sector is one of the main attractions. Leaks mention a 50-megapixel front camera, while on the back there is an additional secondary screen as well as a three-camera system consisting of a 200-megapixel Samsung HPE main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto periscope lens.

For the memory configuration, the Xiaomi 17 Max is rumored to come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. However, the biggest highlight is the battery capacity which is said to reach 8,000mAh. If true, this will be one of the largest batteries in the flagship class. The device is also rumored to support 100W fast charging via cable and 50W wirelessly.

In addition, the Xiaomi 17 Max is said to be equipped with an X-axis linear vibration motor and a symmetrical 1115 dual speaker system to improve the audio experience.

With a combination of a large battery and a high-end chipset, Xiaomi seems to be targeting users who want extreme durability without sacrificing performance. However, all of these specifications are still rumors and can change when the official announcement is made.
