Attack on Iran, the US Lost Military Equipment Worth Rp33 Trillion
JAKARTA - The United States has lost military equipment worth nearly 2 billion US dollars (around Rp33.7 trillion) in its military operations against Iran since Saturday (28/2), according to estimates and data compiled by Anadolu.
As reported by ANTARA, Thursday, March 5, Anadolu noted that the main contributor to the cost was the US AN/FPS-132 early warning radar system at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, worth 1.1 billion US dollars (about Rp18.6 trillion).
The system was hit by an Iranian missile attack last Saturday, with Qatar confirming that the radar was hit by the attack and suffered damage.
On Sunday (1/3), three F-15E Strike Eagle fighter planes were lost due to a friendly fire incident by the Kuwaiti air defense system.
Although the six crew members survived, the planes were destroyed. The cost of replacement is estimated at 282 million US dollars (Rp. 4.7 trillion).
Then, in the opening attack on Saturday, Iran also hit the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain, which destroyed two satellite communication terminals as well as several large buildings.
Based on open source intelligence reports, the SATCOM terminal that was targeted was identified as AN/GSC-52B and was estimated to be worth around 20 million US dollars (Rp337 billion), including the cost of placement and installation.
Iran also claimed to have destroyed the radar component of the AN/TPY-2 of the THAAD Ballistic Missile Defense System (ABM), which was deployed in the Al-Ruwais Industrial City, United Arab Emirates.
Satellite images from open source intelligence reports show the attack. The value of the destroyed radar components is estimated at 500 million US dollars (Rp8.4 trillion).
If combined, Iran has damaged US military assets in the region worth around 1.902 billion US dollars (Rp33 trillion).
So far, Iran has targeted at least seven US military sites in the Middle East since the United States and Israel began launching attacks on Iran.
The seven locations are the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, Camp Arifjan, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Camp Buehring in Kuwait, Erbil Base in Iraq, Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates, which is the largest US Navy transit port in the Middle East, and Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
In addition to military bases, US diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates were also targeted in the attacks.
The US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was hit by two drones. The Saudi Ministry of Defense reported "limited fires and minor material damage" to the complex. According to The Washington Post, the CIA station inside the complex was also affected.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kuwait City, Kuwait, was attacked with a drone and a missile, which was described as a "brutal" attack by Kuwaiti officials.
Smoke was reported to be seen near the compound, while details of the damage were still limited in public reports. The embassy was then closed "until further notice" and non-essential staff and their families were evacuated.
The US Consulate General in Dubai, UAE, was hit by a drone that was allegedly owned by Iran and hit a parking area near the consulate building. A fire occurred but was quickly extinguished by local authorities. The consulate area was affected, but no major structural damage was reported.
