Yenny Wahid Tells the Chronology of the Alleged Sexual Harassment of the Climber Athlete

JAKARTA - The General Chair of the Indonesian Bouldering Federation (FPTI), Yenny Wahid, recounted the chronology of the alleged sexual harassment and physical violence that befell the bouldering athletes at the national training center (pelatnas).

Yenny said that the alleged sexual harassment of athletes was a very serious event for the sport of rock climbing and of course all sports people in Indonesia.

"On January 28, 2026, eight athletes came to see me to report the alleged acts of sexual and physical violence that they had experienced," Yenny said at a press conference in Bekasi, West Java.

A week after the report, FPTI immediately moved to collect a complete list of athletes, some regional athletes, some coaching staff minus the suspected perpetrators, and a psychology team to delve into what happened.

Yenny explained that a few days later, he immediately issued a decision letter (SK) to deactivate the coach who was the perpetrator and immediately took action to form a fact-finding team (TPF).

"To ensure that this alleged incident, we take it very seriously because we do not tolerate various types of behavioral deviations, especially related to sexual violence and physical violence," he said.

In addition to forming a fact-finding team and an investigation team, FPTI also formed a team that moved to formulate a new national team coaching staff so that there would be no vacancy because athletes must continue to be facilitated.

Yenny said that they also immediately took steps to consult with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) by calling directly to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir.

"I reported what had happened and indeed the response was also very positive, supporting all the steps we took," he said.

Furthermore, FPTI asked for assistance from several organizations and carried out direct coordination with the International Federation of Bouldering (IFSC) to explain all the issues.

Yenny said that the reporting to the police was carried out directly by the athletes because the legal standing of the victim was in their own hands.

"Some of our athletes yesterday decided to make a report to the police. They made a report, it will be explained in more detail by the accompanying lawyer of the athletes," he said.

This legal track was taken as a form of seriousness in responding to alleged behavioral irregularities which were considered to have exceeded the limits of norms and laws.

Yenny added that FPTI would not give space for perpetrators of violence within the organization he led.

"We must not only demand that athletes perform well, but also provide them with maximum protection," said Yenny.

FPTI investigation team member, Robertus Robet, explained that currently the TPF is still focused on deepening from the perspective of the victim. This is done to maintain sensitivity and avoid double violence (double violence) against athletes when giving testimony.

"We know that it is not easy for the victim to be open. We know that these obstacles are caused by the value system, norms in our society, taboos, so we follow, sensitivity and emotional development of the victim himself," he said.
