Meta Promises to Improve Content Moderation on its Platform After Being Discussed by the Minister of Communication and Information

JAKARTA - Meta Indonesia representatives expressed their appreciation for the sudden inspection carried out by the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, together with the relevant ministries/institutions, Wednesday, March 4.

Head of Public Policy Meta, Berni Moestafa, stated that the visit was an important momentum to strengthen communication between the company and the government, especially regarding the issue of security and content moderation in Indonesia.

"I would like to thank the Minister, for the presence of the Minister and the Director General, to the Meta office, who gave attention to several things that are of concern to us together," said Berni in Jakarta.

In his meeting with the Minister of Communication and Information, Meta reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all platforms operating in Indonesia remain safe for the public.

The tech giant also admitted that it had conveyed its commitment to follow up on a number of points discussed in the meeting.

"We strive to keep our platform safe for all Indonesian people, and we have committed to following up on what we have just discussed, so that we can make improvements that are expected to make our platform safer for all of us," he said.

This commitment was conveyed after the Minister of Communication and Information Meutya together with other Ministries/Institutions conducted a surprise visit to Meta's representative office as a follow-up to the low level of compliance of the platform with regulations in the country, especially regarding content moderation and reporting.

Komdigi highlighted the high spread of disinformation content on a number of Meta platforms, especially related to health issues, digital crimes such as scamming, and also content that triggers social polarization.

The government assesses that with the number of Indonesian internet users reaching around 230 million people, stronger supervision and commitment from digital platforms is needed to protect public interests.
