Trump Promises Not to Withdraw Troops in Germany
JAKARTA - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said US President Donald Trump promised to maintain the US military presence in Germany.
"President Trump again assured me that the United States would maintain its military presence in Germany," Merz said after meeting Trump at the White House, as reported by Sputnik, Wednesday, March 4.
While calling it good news, Merz stressed that he "did not expect to hear" anything other than assurances from Trump.
Last year, media reported that Trump was considering moving about 35,000 US troops from Germany to Eastern Europe due to frustration with US allies in Europe over the conflict in Ukraine.
