Can Supply 84 Million Tons of Coal, PLN Denies Black Out Issue

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has denied the issue of a shortage of coal supplies for power plants due to RKAB adjustments and production cuts.

PLN's Director of Generation Management, Rizal Calvary Marimbo, said PLN itself had ensured a supply of 84 million tons of coal from 8 major suppliers such as Adaro Indonesia, Arutmin Indonesia, Berau Coal, Kaltim Prima Coal, Kideko Jaya Agung, Multi Harapan Utama, Indominco Harapan Mandiri, and Bukit Asam.

"The total of all that will be supplied is around 84 million metric tons," Rizal told the media crew, quoted by Wednesday, March 4.

For information, previously the Association of Indonesian Private Electricity Producers (APLSI) revealed that most of the steam power plants (PLTU) currently have not met the Plant Operation Day (HOP) standard of 25 days.

For this reason, Rizal reiterated that the supply of coal for the plant was in adequate quantities.

"Because we PLN have just received confirmation of the assignment of eight main coal suppliers for PLN and IPP," he continued.

Furthermore, Rizal said that the supply of coal of 84 million tons is believed to be sufficient until August 2026.

"This means that it will be enough until the end of August, so our HOP will improve in several plants and we hope that before Eid al-Fitr coal will reach all plants," he said.

Rizal also highlighted an issue that mentions that there is a decrease in the operating days of the plant (HOP) which is said to be only at the level of 10 days from the ideal 25 days. Rizal said that this condition does not necessarily reflect the problem of reserves.

According to him, HOP must be seen from the stability of the ongoing supply. As long as the coal supply comes in consistently and does not experience a significant downward trend, then the operation of the plant remains safe.

"If you say HOP 10 days, it's position he walks on, the important thing is stable and continues to walk. If, for example, 1 year, HOP 10 days 10 days but he does not retreat, so 9 becomes 8, down to 7, down to 6," said Rizal.
