Indonesia Anticipates Closure of the Strait of Hormuz
Jakarta - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia held a meeting with the National Energy Council (DEN) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 3.
The meeting discussed the impact of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the conflict between the United States (US) and Israel with Iran. The Strait of Hormuz is a world oil trade traffic route.
Around 20 million barrels of petroleum from the Middle East region pass through this strait every day. Bahlil revealed that Indonesia imports around 20 to 25 percent of its crude oil needs from the Middle East.
In addition, Indonesia also imports oil from various other regions such as Africa and South America.
To anticipate the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Indonesia will increase imports from other regions. That way, the supply for domestic needs can be maintained.
