BMKG Forecasts Several Areas to Enter the Dry Season Starting April 2026

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that a number of areas in Indonesia will enter the dry season starting April 2026, which begins in Nusa Tengara and is gradually experienced in other areas.

"At the beginning of the dry season, most of Indonesia is predicted to enter the dry season in the April period, namely there are 114 seasonal zones or about 16.3 percent of all seasonal zones in Indonesia, as many as 699," said BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 4.

Then, he said, in May 2026, there were 184 seasonal zones and in June 2026, as many as 163 seasonal zones will enter the dry season.

"Later it will start from the Nusa Tenggara region by moving west gradually to other Indonesian regions," he said.

Not only that, he warned that the duration of the dry season in most parts of Indonesia which are in the 400 season zone will experience it longer than normal.

The peak of the dry season is predicted to occur in July 2026 for parts of Sumatra, central and northern Kalimantan, a small part of Java, a small part of West and East Nusa Tengara, northern West Sulawesi, western Central Sulawesi, northern West Sulawesi, a small part of Maluku, central West Papua and East Papua.

The areas that experience the peak of drought in August 2026 are central and southern Sumatra, central to eastern Java, most of Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, part of Maluku, North Maluku and Papua Island.

Meanwhile, BMKG predicts that the areas that experience the peak of the dry season in September, namely part of Lampung, a small part of Java, most of NTT, northern and eastern Sulawesi, most of North Maluku, part of Maluku and a small part of Papua Island.
