Overcoming ITU Target, Huawei Successfully Expands Digital Access to 170 Million Remote Residents

JAKARTA - CEO of Huawei ICT Business Group (ICT BG), Yang Chaobin, announced that Huawei has successfully provided digital connectivity for 170 million people in remote areas in more than 80 countries.

He stated that this achievement surpassed the company's commitment to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) through the digital coalition Partner2Connect (P2C) since joining 2022, which targets 120 million people in remote areas by 2025.

In the TECH Cares Forum held by Huawei in Barcelona, Yang emphasized that the digital divide still exists and risks widening, even though AI development is progressing rapidly.

"High-speed digital networks and reliable computing capabilities are important foundations for an inclusive and sustainable AI era," he said.

"The fulfillment of this ITU P2C commitment reflects Huawei's ongoing commitment to delivering innovation, namely by opening wider access to health, education, and financial services in remote areas through digital connectivity," he continued.

Meanwhile, according to President of Huawei Public Affairs and Communications, Jeff Wang, digital inclusion rests on two main pillars: inclusive connectivity and empowerment of digital skills.

To bridge the digital skills gap, Huawei continues to partner with governments and various organizations to support students, young people, the elderly, and women through three main initiatives, namely expanding digital access, providing digital skills training, and developing STEM curricula.

Going forward, Huawei will continue to drive rural network technology innovation, strengthen open collaboration, and accelerate digital skills empowerment.

Through concrete steps, the company will continue to contribute to a more equal and sustainable digital world.
