JAKARTA - A man who beat an Online Motorcycle Taxi (Ojol) with the initials BAS (28) was secured by the police after allegedly stealing from an elderly person in the Grogol Petamburan area, West Jakarta.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Grogol Petamburan Police, Alexander Tengbunan, explained that the incident occurred on Monday at around 01.00 WIB. At that time, the victim with the initials LSH (70) was passing alone at the scene.

"The victim was seen crossing the scene alone. Then he was approached by the perpetrator who used a motorcycle," Alexander told the media, Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

The perpetrator then tried to forcibly pull the victim's bag. However, this attempt was unsuccessful, causing the victim to fall and hit his head.

"The perpetrator tried to pull the victim's bag, but it didn't work. The victim fell to the ground with his head hitting it," he said.

After the incident, the perpetrator allegedly returned to the location by changing the helmet. He pretended to want to help the victim who fell.

However, the police suspect that the perpetrator actually intends to return to take the victim's bag. The action was not carried out because there were many residents at the location who saw the incident.

"It is suspected that because there were many people there, he did not take the bag and pretended to want to help," explained Alexander.

The police then moved quickly after checking the CCTV footage and getting information from residents who recognized the perpetrator.

"After watching the CCTV and getting information from the public that the perpetrator was similar to the one in the footage, we immediately secured it to the police," he said.

Currently, the perpetrator has been secured by the police. Although the perpetrator admitted that he returned to the location because he felt sorry for the victim, the police considered that the element of attempted theft with violence had been fulfilled.
