NOC Indonesia Investigates Alleged Sexual Violence of Climbers

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) has accompanied and supported the firmness of the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, in responding to the case of alleged sexual harassment and physical violence that befell the rock climber.

Erick previously emphasized that he would oversee the internal investigation process by the Indonesian Bouldering Federation (FPTI) and encourage severe sanctions if the alleged perpetrators were found guilty.

President of the Indonesian NOC, Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that the case was a serious problem and must be followed up objectively because all forms of violence, harassment, and intimidation should not occur in the world of sports.

"I am so concerned to hear that this case of alleged sexual harassment and physical violence against this rock climber has occurred at the national training center (national training center)."

"So, the Indonesian NOC fully supports the commitment and quick steps of the Minister of Youth and Sports," he said in a statement received.

Okto, the nickname of Raja Sapta Oktohari, further said that this case must be investigated objectively, transparently, professionally, and fairly. He emphasized that the environment of the national team should be a safe space for all athletes to develop and achieve.

He also ensured that the Indonesian NOC would show commitment to protection efforts for athletes so that a safe sports ecosystem could be created.

This is shown by accompanying the investigation process which is currently underway through the safeguarding task force.

Okto explained that the safeguarding program implemented since 2024 is a systematic step in the form of moral commitment and institutional responsibility to ensure that all athletes are entitled to the opportunity to train, develop, and achieve in a safe, inclusive, and free from any threat environment.

"We continue to coordinate intensively with FPTI, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the national federations of various sports because we do not compromise in dealing with cases of alleged sexual violence like this," he said.

NOC Indonesia has also sent an official letter to all national federations of NOC Indonesia members to ensure that education, socialization, and the implementation of safeguarding policies are carried out consistently and measured.

"NOC Indonesia is committed to supporting every strategic step of the Government, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in creating an integrity, professional, and violence-free national sports ecosystem," said Okto.
