Israel-US Bombs Elementary School on First Day of Iran Attack, 165 Bodies Now Buried
JAKARTA - Iran held a mass funeral ceremony for 165 dead victims today after an Israeli-American (US) air raid bombed a girls' elementary school (SD) in Minab, Iran, on Saturday, February 28.
Israel-US bombed a girls' elementary school building on the first day of its attack on Iran after the Geneva nuclear talks, which will enter the fourth round, were said to be going well by Oman as a negotiator.
Monitoring from Iranian government television, quoted by Al Jazeera, Tuesday, February 3, this mass funeral was attended by thousands of people who first filled the public square.
From the stage at the location of the funeral, a mother of an elementary school student named Atena who was one of the victims of the attack condemned the Israeli-US attack targeting the school building.
The mother also held up a portrait of her son printed in a poster and called it a "document of American crimes".
Meanwhile, the crowd who took part in the feeding procession shouted "Death to America," "Death to Israel," and "Don't Surrender."
The Guardian reported on Sunday, March 1, that the number of deaths from the Israeli-US missile attack on a girls' school in Minab, southern Iran, had risen to 165.
Video and photos of the aftermath, which have been verified as authentic and geolocated to the location, show hundreds of people gathered around the partially collapsed and smoky building, with debris strewn on the street and people digging in it to search for victims. Shouts are heard in the background. In some pictures, school bags and textbooks are pulled from the ruins.
US Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said the US "is aware of reports of civilian casualties as a result of ongoing military operations. We take these reports seriously and are investigating them".
