Shalat Gerhana Bulan: Hukum, Niat, dan Urutan Pelaksanaannya

YOGYAKARTA - The total lunar eclipse (GBT) will be visible in Indonesia today, Monday, March 3. For Muslims, this event is not only an astronomical phenomenon but also a moment to worship. When the moon eclipse occurs, Muslims are encouraged to perform the lunar eclipse prayer (khusuf) as a form of submission after witnessing the greatness of Allah SWT.

Therefore, understanding the procedure for praying during a lunar eclipse is very important so that the worship performed is correct and full of devotion. Reported from the Kemenag RI website, the following is the discussion.

How to Pray the Moon Eclipse Prayer

Syekh Nawawi al-Bantani in the book Nihayatuz Zain explains that the law of praying during a lunar eclipse is sunnah muakkadah, which is highly recommended. This means that, although it is not obligatory, this worship is highly recommended to be carried out when an eclipse occurs.

The eclipse moon prayer consists of two rakats. Its implementation is similar to other sunnah prayers, the difference lies in the number of prostrations in each rakats.

The prayer of the lunar eclipse can be done alone or in congregation. The procedure for carrying out this sunnah prayer is as follows:

The intention of praying the eclipse is in conjunction with takbiratul ihram. The pronunciation of the intention is:

I prayed the Sunnah of Al-Khusuf with two rak'ahs for Allah, the Exalted.

Ushallî sunnatal khusûf rak‘ataini lillâhi ta‘âlâ.

"Sayaniatshalat sunah gerhana bulan dua rakaat karena Allah SWT."

Reading the Iftitah prayer. Reading Ta'awudz and Al-Fatihah. Reading the Qur'an with jahr (lantang). First rukuk (long). Rise from ruku (I'tidal). Read the surat Al-Fatihah again. Read a letter shorter than the letter in point 4. Second rukuk (shorter than the first rukuk). Rise from ruku (I'tidal). First prostration. Sit between two prostrations. Second prostration.

Entering the second rakaat, the procedure is the same as the first rakaat. Only, the reading of the letter in the second rakaat is recommended to be shorter than the first rakaat. After completing two rakaats, the prayer is continued with the final tasyahud and closed with salam.

If summarized, the main difference of the eclipse moon prayer lies in two rukuk in each rakaat. Other than that, the movements and readings are similar to other sunnah prayers. When the moon eclipse occurs later tonight, hopefully we will not only be spectators, but also servants who bow and prostrate.
