Bulog Warehouse Full, Minister of Agriculture Says Rice Reserves Reach 3.7 Million Tons Ahead of Eid 2026
JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman ensures that the national food supply and supply are in a safe condition ahead of Lebaran 2026, even though the conflict in the Middle East has sparked concerns about the global supply chain.
At the export release event for poultry and its derivatives to Japan, Singapore, and Timor Leste in Jakarta, Amran said the national strategic food reserves remained under control and were not affected by external turmoil.
"It was asked by the President (Prabowo Subianto) last night. Our food is more than enough. Remember, food is very important, our main food is for Indonesia carbohydrates and rice," said Amran as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 3.
He emphasized that rice is the most crucial commodity in the structure of Indonesian people's consumption. In addition to rice, commodities such as eggs, chickens, and corn are also said to be in a safe condition.
"Food is rice, which is the core of our food. If others can still find substitutes. If there is no meat, there can be eggs, if there are no eggs, there can be fish," he said.
According to Amran, the consumption of rice by the Indonesian people reaches around 65-70 percent of the national food consumption pattern. Therefore, the achievement of rice self-sufficiency is considered a key indicator of food security in the midst of global uncertainty.
"Carbohydrates can now be substituted for yams, cassava, but for Indonesians they still need food and food for rice is 70 percent consumption," he said.
For government rice reserves, he said the current stock had reached around 3.67 million tons and was expected to reach 3.7 million tons in the near future. This figure is claimed to be the highest in history and is targeted to increase to 5 million tons by April without imports.
The surge in stocks has made Perum Bulog's warehouse capacity, which was previously around 3 million tons, full. The government also increased capacity by renting warehouses up to 2 million tons to accommodate rice reserves.
With this condition, Amran emphasized that the public did not need to worry about food availability ahead of Eid, because the national core commodity stocks were in a safe position and continued to be monitored by the government.
