Aceh Earthquake Felt to Medan, This is the Explanation from BMKG

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected that the Sinabang area, Aceh, was shaken by a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4, with tremors felt in a number of areas in North Sumatra including Medan City.

Acting Director of Gempabumi and Tsunami BMKG Rahmat Triyono said the earthquake was centered in the sea at a depth of 26 kilometers, from an area of about 69 kilometers southeast of Sinabang, Aceh.

As reported by ANTARA, the results of the BMKG analysis showed that the earthquake was a shallow earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian Plate which sank under the Eurasian Plate, at 11.56.45 WIB.

The earthquake was felt in Aceh Singkil, South West Aceh, Nagan Raya, and Simeulue with an intensity scale of IV MMI, which was felt by many people in the house during the day. In the Nias and Pinangsori areas, the tremors were recorded at a scale of III-IV MMI.
