2 Passengers of KM Ciremai Carrying 6 Kg of Marijuana Arrested at Jayapura Port
JAKARTA - The Jayapura Port Area Police (KPL) arrested two smugglers with six kilograms of marijuana who were about to be smuggled to Sorong using the KM Ciremai ship.
Jayapura City Police Chief Kombes Fredrickus Maclarimboen said two prospective passengers suspected of smuggling marijuana were arrested shortly before the Ciremai KM left the Jayapura port, Saturday, March 1 night.
"KPL Jayapura Police personnel will increase surveillance of passengers' belongings, especially illegal goods, especially marijuana drugs," said AKP Kadir in Jayapura, Monday, quoted by Antara.
The arrest of the two suspects on the ship began when police officers were suspicious of the prospective passengers when they were about to cross the inspection area, but after being checked, no prohibited items were found.
However, after further monitoring, said Fredrickus, two people were then secured, namely GR (23) and YW (21/female) while in Deck 4 of the front of the ship.
Then, said the Police Chief, an examination was carried out on YW's belongings and found one brown carton of tos-tos tortilla chips brand containing five large bundles in brown wrapping and wrapped in clothes containing 6,080 grams of marijuana.
KPL Jayapura Police Chief AKP Kadir added that there were five packages containing marijuana with different weights, namely 1.340 grams, 1.390 grams, 1.240 grams, 1.340 grams, and 770 grams, which in total amounted to 6.080 grams or about six kilograms.
Both suspects and the evidence have now been handed over to the Jayapura City Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Unit for further processing.
