Attend the Funeral, SBY Remember Try Sutrisno: Soldier and Statesman

JAKARTA - The 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) remembers the figure of the 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Try Sutrisno as a patriot and statesman.

SBY and his son, Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, attended the military funeral ceremony for Try Sutrisno at the National Heroes Cemetery (TMP) Kalibata, Jakarta, Monday afternoon.

"He (one) is a soldier and patriot. He is a leader, he is an example with his family, and above all, he is a statesman," SBY recalled Try Sutrisno when he was met after the ceremony at TMP Kalibata, quoted by Antara.

In the midst of the rain, SBY and a number of figures and state officials followed the funeral procession accompanied by a military ceremony. The funeral ceremony was led directly by President Prabowo Subianto, who acted as the inspector of the ceremony (irup).

During the ceremony procession, President Prabowo read the persada apple, which became the last words to deliver the late Try Sutrisno to his final resting place. The reading of the persada apple by the ceremony inspector is a tradition that is always carried out in military funeral ceremonies.

"I, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, nation, and the Indonesian National Army, hereby present to the motherland, the soul and body, and the services of the deceased. Name: Try Sutrisno; Position: 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia 1993-1998, Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces 1988-1993. Son of Mr. Subandi, the deceased, who has died for the sake of the country and the nation and has died on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 06.58 WIB in Jakarta. May the path of dharma bakti that he has taken can be an example for us all, and may his soul find the best place by the side of the Almighty God. Jakarta, 2 March 2026, President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto," read the text of the presidential appeal for the deceased Try Sutrisno.

After that, the ceremony continued with paying tribute to the deceased before his body was lowered into the grave. Then, President Prabowo symbolically filled the grave by shoveling one shovel of soil into the grave. The soil filling was then continued by several cemetery officers, accompanied by the installation of a tombstone.

Near the tomb, President Prabowo witnessed the burial of the mass grave accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, then the three heads of the TNI staff, namely the KSAD General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, and the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono, the Commander of the TNI General TNI Agus Subiyanto, and also the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the burial chamber, in addition to the family, a number of figures also attended the ceremony, including the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the 11th Vice President Boediono, and a number of ministers of the Red and White Cabinet.

President Prabowo then laid a wreath on behalf of the state on Try Sutrisno's grave. The President also gave his last salute to Try Sutrisno. The laying of wreaths was then continued by family representatives.

The ceremony procession was then continued with a prayer led by Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar. The ceremony was closed with the last honor by all participants in the ceremony, accompanied by music from the TNI music unit.

After closing the ceremony, President Prabowo handed over the Red and White flag covering the coffin and the transcript of the presidential appeal to the deceased's family.

Try Sutrisno, who served as the 6th Vice President during the reign of President Ke-2 Soeharto, died while being treated at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD), Jakarta, Monday morning. The deceased died at the age of 90.
