Dismissing Trump's Claim, Ali Larijani Stresses Iran Will Not Negotiate with the US
JAKARTA - Senior Iranian officials have dismissed claims by the President of the United States that Tehran wants to engage in dialogue, confirming it as an illusion and calling it a concern of the US Leader.
Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Larijani on Monday denied claims that Tehran had sought to restart negotiations with Washington, stating that Iran would not engage in talks with the US.
Larijani's response on the X social media was made in response to a report stating that Iran had made a new initiative to negotiate with the US.
Referring to a report by Al Jazeera, which quoted The Wall Street Journal, which claimed that he was continuing negotiations with Washington through Oman, he noted: "We will not negotiate with the US," as quoted by Anadolu.
As previously reported, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iran's new leadership wanted to talk to him and he had agreed, according to an interview with the Atlantic magazine.
This claim comes after Iran announced the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to a US and Israeli attack. In its place, according to the Constitution, a provisional structure will lead until a new leader is elected.
In a separate post, Larijani also responded to US President Donald Trump's statement about Iran.
Criticizing the US Uncle Sam's leader for bringing the region into chaos with "empty illusions", Larijani said: "He is now worried about further losses of American soldiers. With his own delusion, he has turned the slogan 'America First' into 'Israel First' and sacrificed American troops for Israel's lust for power."
Larijani then accused President Trump of "making American soldiers and their families pay the price with new lies."
As previously reported, Israel and the United States launched an attack on the capital Tehran and a number of cities in Iran on Saturday.
Quoted from ABC, the United States dubbed the operation "Operation Epic Fury" while Israel called it "Operation Roaring Lion."
The US-Israeli joint military campaign has killed several senior officials of the State of the Mullahs, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran then retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Gulf states. Three US military members have been killed and five others seriously injured.
