Indonesian Men's and Women's Field Hockey Teams Bidik to Qualify for the 2026 Asian Games
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Field Hockey National Team, both men's and women's, is aiming to qualify for the 2026 Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, in September 2025.
Aulia Akbar Al Ardh as captain of the Indonesian Field Hockey National Team said that this year they set a higher target in the qualifying round after making history in the previous edition of the Asian Games in 2022.
"Our goal is not only to qualify for the 2026 Asian Games, but also to become finalists in the qualifiers," Aulia said in an official statement received.
The Indonesian Men's Field Hockey National Team previously made history for the first time to qualify for the Asian Games by winning a bronze medal in the qualification round.
In the same event, the Indonesian Women's Field Hockey Team also made history by being able to perform for the first time after successfully ranking fifth.
The captain of the women's team, Nisa Indira, who was included in the team squad in the previous edition, hopes to repeat the achievement so that she can get a ticket to Japan this year.
"I also hope that the women's team can also meet the target of qualifying so that they can return to the Asian Games," he said.
The men's squad is scheduled to take part in the 2026 Asian Games qualification round in Oman on March 25-April 5 and the women's team will perform in front of the public in Jakarta on April 20-30, 2026.
To be able to qualify for this year's Asian Games, the Indonesian men's team must be in the top six, while the women's team is in the top four.
Currently, the Indonesian men's and women's teams are undergoing national training (pelatnas) at the Eden Sport Centre, Depok, West Java. In addition to the two-month training concentration, they will also undergo a series of trials abroad.
The 2026 Asian Games are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4. The 20th edition of the largest sports festival in Asia will feature 43 sports.
