Sandy Canester Introduces Single Pohon as a New Media of Contemplation
JAKARTA - Sandy Canester is back to enliven the Indonesian music industry with a work that is completely unusual.
Titled "Tree", this latest single is not just a song with a general environmental theme, but a reflective monologue that uses the perspective of a tree that has been a silent witness to the journey of human life.
The creative process of this song was born from deep contemplation in the backyard of his house, when Sandy felt stuck in his work.
In his statement in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, Friday, February 27, 2026,
Sandy said that his new song this time is the fruit of a silent phase and the result of his observations of the environment which is often considered a passing wind.
Through poetic lyrics, Sandy wants to describe how the relationship between humans and trees is often one-way. Humans tend to come when they feel fragile and need to lean on, but often forget to take care of and pay attention back when they feel strong.
"I was given a tone and lyrics from God about the POV (point of view) of a tree that tells how his hope is," said Sandy at a press conference in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, Friday, February 27.
"This song is to remember that we also have friends, namely trees," he continued. "Trees are about relationships that we often take for granted. We come when we need it, lean on it when it's fragile, but forget to take care of it when we feel strong."
Musically, "Pohon" is wrapped in a calm, emotional, and minimalist musical arrangement. This is deliberately done to give space for the message in the lyrics to be conveyed intimately to the listener without appearing to be condescending.
Sandy emphasized that this song was not created to chase popularity or just be crowded in the music market, but as a friend for those who are tired and need space to reflect.
"I wrote 'Pohon' not because I wanted to make a song about nature. I wrote it because I felt, the more we get here, we often forget the things that secretly keep us alive," said the 46-year-old musician.
"I learned that not everything that matters needs to be said. A tree never asks to be seen. It gives shade, air, and life, even when its name is not mentioned," he added.
Interestingly, the release of this single also carries a real social mission through a unique distribution scheme. Sandy Canester collaborates with the NOICE content streaming platform to release "Pohon" exclusively with a pay-per-content system.
This step was taken not only to provide a new experience for music lovers in directly appreciating the work, but also for philanthropic purposes.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of this song will be channeled through a donation program for planting and preserving trees in various regions in Indonesia.
"The proceeds from the sale of the song 'Pohon' will be channeled for a donation program for planting and preserving trees in Indonesia. If one day this song accompanies someone who is tired, then the task is accomplished. After being released, the song also has its own life. Like a tree," concluded Sandy.
