Fishermen Found Dead in Banyuates Found, Victim Aged 37 Years

SAMPANG - A joint team from the police, TNI and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bangkalan Regency evacuated fishermen from Bangkalan Regency, East Java who were found dead by residents on Banyuates Beach.

"The victim is named Andi Yuswandi (37), a fisherman from Pesisir Village, Sepuluh Village, Sepuluh District, Bangkalan Regency. The victim's body has been delivered to the funeral home," said Head of Public Relations of the Sampang Police, AKP Eko Puji Waluyo, as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, March 1.

Eko said the victim was found lying stiffly on the beach with a body that had turned blue and had a bad smell.

The victim was first found by Afdan Amirul Abror (16) and Rivandi (17), fishermen from Banyuates who went to the beach to pick up fishing nets.

After arriving at the beach, the two people saw a body in a prone position.

"These two people immediately reported the discovery of the body to the local village officials and the village officials reported it to the Police and the BPBD of the Sampang Regency Government," he said.

From the results of the temporary search, the victim was previously reported missing while at sea.

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, at around 22.00 WIB, the victim returned from the sea, then returned to the sea alone on Friday morning, February 27, 2026, at around 01.20 WIB to catch fish.

Since then, the victim has not returned home until finally the family reported to the police.

Search efforts were carried out on Saturday, February 28, 2026 by a joint team involving SAR, BPBD, TNI AL, Polairud, and volunteers.

"The victim's family refused to have an autopsy. The family has also made an official statement of refusal of an autopsy and stated that they will not sue anyone, because they consider the incident a disaster," he said.
