Middle East conflict heats up, Pertamina tightens energy risk mitigation
JAKARTA - Amid the escalation of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East region, PT Pertamina (Persero) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the stability of national energy supply.
The state-owned company ensures that the safety of workers and the sustainability of operations remain the top priority through strengthening risk mitigation and intensive monitoring across all business lines.
This step was carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI), the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI), and local authorities to ensure that the operational provision of energy runs optimally and is under control.
Pertamina has identified three strategic business units that are directly related to the dynamics of the Middle East region. The three are PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non Captive which handles global energy transportation, Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP) which carries out upstream operations in Basra, Iraq, and Pertamina Patra Niaga in the procurement of crude oil and energy products from the region.
Vice President of Corporate Communication Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, said that all workers, operations, and fleets in the Middle East region continue to be closely monitored.
"Pertamina has prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian Embassy, Indonesian Consulate General, and local authorities to maintain crew safety and operational smoothness," he said in a statement, Sunday, March 1.
According to Baron, Pertamina is also actively monitoring global energy dynamics and conducting sustainable mitigation to ensure national energy resilience is maintained. As an integrated energy company, Pertamina has a diversified portfolio of crude oil, fuel oil, and LPG supplies, both from domestic production and from various partner countries.
"This diversification provides flexibility in managing supplies amid geopolitical uncertainty," he said.
In addition, Pertamina optimizes the operation of domestic refineries to maintain the balance of production and distribution. With integrated supply management from upstream to downstream, the company ensures that the availability of fuel and LPG for the community remains safe, adequate, and under control.
"As the front guard of national energy, Pertamina tightens supervision and strives to ensure the safety of the supply of crude, fuel, and LPG to meet the needs of all Indonesian people," said Baron.
On the other hand, Pertamina emphasized its commitment as a national energy transition leader. The company continues to support the 2060 Net Zero Emission target and encourages programs that directly contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"All these efforts are in line with the company's transformation which is oriented towards governance, business sustainability, and the environment through the application of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in all Pertamina operations," he said.
