Din Syamsuddin: US-Israel attack on Iran "Real Terrorism", UN asked to act - Prabowo do not lean
JAKARTA - Professor of Global Islamic Politics at FISIP UIN Jakarta M. Din Syamsuddin urged the United Nations to take firm action against the United States and Israel following the military attack on Iran which he described as an aggression on the sovereignty of another country. Din considered the attack to be unjustified, in violation of international law, and potentially dragging the region into a larger war.
"The Israeli-American military attack on Iran is a form of intervention and aggression against the territory of another country," Din said in his statement, Sunday (1/3). He called the attack "unjustified", a violation of international law, and a "real form of terrorism".
Din Syamsudin, who is also the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Indonesian People's Alliance for Palestine (ARI-BP), warned that the Israel-US conflict versus Iran has the potential to ignite a regional war and even a global war, as well as "disrupt the Islamic world". Therefore, he asked the member countries of the OIC to show solidarity, uphold truth and justice, and reject attacks on the sovereignty of Islamic countries.
He also pressured the Indonesian Government to consistently carry out the mandate of the constitution: free foreign policy. Din assessed that Indonesia should not lean towards the US and Israel. He even demanded President Prabowo Subianto to dare to rebuke US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "not play with fire" to ignite a war. Din delivered a harsh note: "President Prabowo should not go to Tehran but return to Washington DC".
In his statement, Din also asked Indonesia together with the OIC countries to urge the United Nations to prevent war and take firm action against the leaders he called "the root of" world peace, namely Trump and Netanyahu.
The Chairman of the General Assembly of PP Muhammadiyah 2005 - 2010 also alluded to Trump's Board of Peace. He assessed the attack on Iran - which he called a loyal supporter of Palestine - proved that the Board of Peace was only a "camouflage" so that Israel could freely control Palestine. Din said Israel was increasingly attacking Palestine, while members of the Board of Peace were "silent".
