Ahmad Vahidi Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, replaces Mohammad Pakpour who died
JAKARTA - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has appointed Ahmad Vahidi as the new commander, after previously serving as an advisor, reported Iran's Khabar Online news agency.
Vahidi was appointed to replace Mohammad Pakpour, who was killed in a recent US and Israeli attack.
The attack led to the death of the highest-ranking commander of the Iranian armed forces, including Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who is the supreme commander of the Iranian armed forces, as confirmed by Iranian state media on Sunday.
Among those killed were Iran's military chief of staff Abdulrahim Mousavi, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, IRGC commander Pakpour, and Secretary of the Defense Council Ali Shamkhani.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched a series of attacks on Iranian targets, including Tehran, which caused damage and civilian casualties.
Iran then responded by launching retaliatory missile attacks on Israeli territory, as well as on US military infrastructure in the Middle East.
