Iran Announces 40 Days of Mourning for the Death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
JAKARTA - The Iranian government has announced 40 days of mourning and a week-long work holiday after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was martyred in an Israeli and US attack on Saturday, February 28, 2026, reported the Fars news agency, as VOI quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Iranian state television earlier confirmed that Khamenei had been martyred in the attack.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched a series of attacks on a number of targets in Iran, including Tehran. The US aggression along with its closest allies in the Middle East not only caused damage but also civilian casualties and injuries.
The aggression was then retaliated by Iran with missile attacks on Israeli territory, as well as on a number of US military installations in the Middle East.
