Firm, BGN Temporary Stop 47 SPPG because of the Menu Not Worthy

JAKARTA - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) said that it had temporarily stopped the operation of 47 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) until the 9th day of Ramadan, following repeated findings of Free Nutrition Meals (MBG) menus that did not meet quality standards and eligibility for consumption.

The data of the Monitoring and Supervision of the Ministry of Health as of February 28, 2026 at 11.20 WIB recorded that 47 cases were spread across three work areas. Region I has 5 incidents, Region II has 30 incidents, and Region III has 12 incidents. Findings include moldy bread, rotten and maggot fruit, stale meat, raw or rotten eggs, to menus that are considered not up to standard quality.

Deputy Head of BGN, Nanik S. Deyang, said in Jakarta, Saturday, the move was made as part of a quality control mechanism that cannot be negotiated.

"We do not tolerate deviations from food standards in this program. Any findings are immediately followed up with a temporary suspension of operations for thorough evaluation," he said as quoted by Antara.

He explained that the decision was made after the field verification process and a multi-level report from the regional supervision team. The evaluation was carried out not only on food products, but also on kitchen management, distribution chain, and quality control procedures.

"The MBG program concerns children's health and the credibility of the state in ensuring nutritional intake. Therefore, our supervision is carried out strictly and transparently," said Nanik.

In some cases, the food that was indicated as not suitable was withdrawn before being consumed by students. However, BGN still imposed administrative sanctions as a form of enforcement of standards and systemic learning for all organizers.

"SPPG that is suspended can resume operations after all the improvement recommendations are met and declared to pass the re-verification. We want to ensure that the quality is really maintained before the service is reopened," he said.
