Biopic of World Karate Champion Titik Verdi Ready to Be Produced in June, Raises the Issue of Women's Protection
JAKARTA - The story of Titik Prasetyowati Verdi, the Indonesian karate legend who became the World Champion twice, is preparing to hit the big screen. Titik conveyed the plan to produce a biopic film about his life's journey to the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Fadli Zon in a meeting at the Ministry of Culture, Jakarta, Friday, February 27. This film not only highlights achievements, but also carries a social message about the prevalence of sexual violence and criminal threats against women and children.
Titik said the biopic was adapted from the journey to win the Karate World Champion title in Mexico (1991) and Tokyo (1993). He said the research and writing of the script had been completed, while the location and cast had been prepared. Production is targeted to start in June.
"This film is a true story of my life's journey in winning the karate world champion twice and waving the name of Indonesia in the international arena. We hope this film can inspire the younger generation and bring a positive message to the community," said Titik.
He emphasized that this film also contains a mission to empower women. Karate, according to him, is not just shown as a sport, but as a way to build discipline, courage, and the ability to protect oneself. "We hope this film can be part of the effort to empower women... as a means to build courage, discipline, and the ability to protect oneself," he said.
Fadli appreciates the biopic plan because it is considered inspirational and relevant to social issues. He emphasized the government's support for films that raise the story of struggle and bring positive messages. "The Ministry of Culture strongly supports national film works that have inspirational values and strengthen the character of the nation," said Fadli.
The Ministry of Culture, continued Fadli, is committed to strengthening the national film ecosystem through facilitation of promotion, networking, and access to festival participation so that the competitiveness of Indonesian films increases at the global level. Director of Film, Music, and Art Syaiful Agam added that biopics have an important role to convey an example. According to him, the story of the struggle and achievements of the figure in the film can be a positive message for the audience and strengthen the value of example in society.
This meeting was also attended by the Special Staff of the Minister for Law and Intellectual Property B.R.A. Putri Woelan Sari Dewi and M. Rico Novaldi from the Titik team.
