Bapanas: Prices of Basic Food in the Market are Stable and Stock is Well-Maintained

JAKARTA - Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) I Ketut Astawa said that based on market monitoring, prices of commodities have decreased.

"I think all staple foods are stable. The stock is safe. So that hopefully entering Lebaran with monitoring (in the market), the price can go down. Although it varies, but the trend we see has gone down and started to stabilize," said Ketut in a written statement, quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 28.

He said the volatility of the prices of strategic staple foods during the first week of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah continued to be closely monitored by the government.

The dynamics of food price movements should not be exceeded to fluctuate so that people's purchasing power can also be maintained stable.

"Stocks are also safe. The government is optimistic that food prices until Eid al-Fitr will continue to be maintained," he said.

He gave an example of the results of the review at the Senen Market in Jakarta, most of the strategic staple foods were in the highest retail price (HET) range and the reference sales price (HAP) at the consumer level.

It is observed that the price of beef is relatively stable ranging from Rp. 130,000, Rp. 135,000 to Rp. 140,000 per kg. Chicken meat is Rp. 40,000 per kg, and red chili is Rp. 100,000 per kg.

"Red chili has dropped from Rp. 110,000 yesterday. Then the eggs vary, some are Rp. 29,000, some are Rp. 30,500," said Ketut.

In order to control the volatility of food prices, the government through Bapanas together with Perum Bulog continues to carry out various food intervention programs.

Economic stimulus programs such as food assistance and the provision of rice at subsidized prices are expected to play a role as an economic cushion for low-income people.

"Food assistance will be encouraged this year, there are 33.2 million KPM (Family of Beneficiaries), it will be given in March. We give it. We have prepared everything, so that all our programs will be encouraged, for the food assistance to be carried out," said Ketut.

The total budget prepared by the government for the rice and cooking oil assistance program is IDR 11.92 trillion.

The number of food assistance recipients was also drastically increased to 33,244,408 recipients throughout Indonesia.

The five provinces with the largest number of recipients are West Java with 6,093,530 recipients. Then East Java with 5,638,478 recipients and Central Java with 5,071,126 recipients. Followed by North Sumatra with 1,756,846 recipients and Banten with 1,298,597 recipients.

Meanwhile, the number of recipients of food assistance for eastern Indonesia has also been increased.

Maluku Province added 142,978 recipients compared to the previous program, so that the total is now 266,500 recipients. North Maluku added 55,017 recipients, bringing the total to 112,428 recipients.

Papua Province also increased by 50,973 to a total of 118,076 recipients. West Papua increased by 30,197 to 74,044 recipients. For West Papua, it increased by 35,030 to 78,965 recipients.

Furthermore, the total recipients in Papua Mountains increased by 112,805 to 265,356 recipients, South Papua increased by 26,041 to 73,601 recipients, and Central Papua increased by 55,997 to 228,654 recipients.

Bapanas hopes that the distribution of rice and cooking oil food assistance to low-income people can support consumption needs during Ramadan.

Then there can be a shift in the consumption expenditure of food assistance recipients to other things that are also basic necessities or other productive things.

Not only that, Bapanas also ensures that the Rice Supply and Food Price Stabilization Program (SPHP) continues to run throughout 2026.

Previously, Bapanas had extended the 2025 rice SPHP program until the end of February 2026.

The program for providing rice with subsidized prices will continue starting next March. The budget prepared for the 2026 rice SPHP program is IDR 4.97 trillion.

This is equivalent to the cost of the price subsidy provided by the government for a total of 828 thousand tons of SPHP rice purchased by the public.

Separately, the Head of Bapanas and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that no party should make food price anomalies, especially during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

"All sectors of staple food in the holy month of Ramadan must follow the existing price regulations. Don't disturb the people," said Amran.

Meanwhile, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that as of the third week of February 2026, there were still 23 provinces that experienced an increase in the Price Development Index (IPH).

However, of the 23 provinces, only 7 provinces experienced an increase in IPH that exceeded 2 percent.

The seven provinces are Central Java with an increase in IPH of 2.23 percent, West Java 2.39 percent, East Java 3.13 percent, Bali 3.23 percent, Yogyakarta 3.61 percent, Bangka Belitung Islands 4.57 percent, and West Nusa Tenggara 5.47 percent.
