For the Role of a Flight Attendant in the 80s Film 'Kapal Terbang', Naysilla Mirdad is Willing to Cut Her Hair
JAKARTA - Actress Naysilla Mirdad again showed her totality in acting. This time, she was involved in the latest film project titled Kapal Terbang which took place in the 1980s.
Playing the role of a flight attendant, Naysilla admitted that she had to make a significant transformation in appearance in order to bring back the retro atmosphere of that time.
In a recent press conference, Naysilla told how the visual style of the 80s presented its own challenges for her and the other cast members. According to him, the style in that era was very different from current trends.
"The appearance of the 80s era is very different from the style of the present year. I am here maybe representing the flight attendants, here there is Pam, there is Asyila too. We are all three together. And the uniform is the flight attendant's uniform which is indeed adjusted for that year," said Naysilla Mirdad in South Jakarta, Friday, February 27.
Apart from the uniform, Naysilla highlights the details of hair style and makeup which are crucial elements in building the character. He revealed that he and his co-stars had to cut their hair to get the aesthetics that the director wanted.
"But if it's me who is much more interesting is the hair and makeup. Because our hair and makeup are very suitable for the 80s. We three have to cut our hair, right?" he said.
Even though he had to drastically change his appearance, the daughter of Lydia Kandou admitted that he did not mind. He put full trust in the director, Ozan Ruz, or who is familiarly called Bang Ozan, in determining the visual direction of the character he plays.
"We even cut our hair but of course we trust Bang Ozan, our director. Because I'm sure what is good in Bang Ozan's eyes is good for all of us," added Naysilla.
Naysilla explained that during the production process, Bang Ozan gave room for the actors to discuss comfort and character fit. However, seeing the results of the transformation, he felt very confident with the resulting visuals.
"Although Bang Ozan has given space for discussion, but yes we just believe it and the result is quite confident that it will definitely be good," he said optimistically.
Although the official screening schedule for the film Kapal Terbang has not been announced in detail, Naysilla hopes that the public can soon enjoy this work on the big screen.
"Watch it! It hasn't aired yet, I don't know when it will air, but hopefully soon. That's it. Thank you," he concluded, accompanied by applause from the audience.
The film itself is inspired by the real-life hijacking of the Garuda Indonesia DC-9 "Woyla" plane in March 1981. The event is remembered as a tense hostage rescue operation by Indonesian special forces (then Kopassandha) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Executive Producer, George Santos, emphasized that the main purpose of this film is not to dig up old wounds, but to learn valuable lessons from history.
"Today we reopen the Woyla 1981 event, not intending to open old wounds. The Woyla 1981 event teaches us the meaning of courage, the meaning of sacrifice, the meaning of losing. This film has become a form of our moral responsibility," said George Santos.
Ozan Ruz, who sat in the director's chair, revealed the incredible spirit of the entire team and the players. He felt that the film was a shared property, not just the production house.
"Everyone involved, they all feel very possessed, possessed too. Possession, so we work collectively and I hope that this spirit will bring the airplane to fly as high as possible," said Ozan Ruz.
The film Airplane will be starring a line-up of top actors and actresses in the country such as Oka Antara, Jeremy Thomas, to Tengku Rifnu Wikana.
