Rehabilitation of Post-disaster Infrastructure in Sumatra is Being Implemented
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said that the acceleration of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure in Aceh and other areas of Sumatra continues.
"In particular, we are updating the progress and evaluating the task force for accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction after natural disasters in Sumatra, both Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra," said AHY in Bogor, Friday, February 27, reported by ANTARA.
He said the conditions in the three provinces showed significant improvement compared to the early post-disaster period.
Based on data from the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) as of February 23, 2026, all 38 national roads and 17 national bridges affected in Aceh have been operating functionally.
In North Sumatra, all 30 national roads and five national bridges that were affected have also returned to functional operation. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, all 31 national roads and 13 national bridges that were affected have been able to be used again.
Apart from road and bridge infrastructure, the recovery of electricity networks and telecommunication services also showed a positive trend.
All affected base transceiver stations (BTS) in the three provinces have returned to service, while electricity supply in West Sumatra has fully recovered and in Aceh and North Sumatra is in the final stages of completion.
According to AHY, the government continues to focus on rebuilding basic infrastructure to restore social and economic activities of the community.
"We are indeed focusing on strengthening or rebuilding basic infrastructure such as roads, bridges, including sanitation, clean water supply, houses of worship, schools, hospitals," he said.
In addition to public infrastructure, the government is also encouraging the acceleration of housing development for affected residents so that they are no longer living in refugee camps.
Previously, the government through the PRR Task Force had recorded as many as 25 thousand houses affected by hydrometeorological disasters that had been verified.
The government has also prepared a relief scheme for affected people based on the level of damage to the house, namely Rp15 million for repairing lightly damaged houses, Rp30 million for moderately damaged houses, and Rp60 million for severely damaged or lost houses.
AHY emphasized that rehabilitation and reconstruction continued through cross-ministerial and regional government coordination to ensure that the process was effective and targeted.
"We hope that more housing will be built so that no one else will be in exile," he said.
According to him, the acceleration of the recovery of basic infrastructure is important to restore community mobility and encourage economic recovery in the affected areas.
The government, continued AHY, will continue to monitor developments in the field so that the rehabilitation and reconstruction process can be completed according to target and provide direct impact for the community.
