School Damaged Government Responsibility, Palace Claims 16,000 Schools Renovated Rp17 Trillion
JAKARTA - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasized that the issue of damaged schools is not a new problem. However, he also emphasized that the authority of schools also lies with the local government, not only at the center.
"Schools are damaged, schools are not good. And you have to remember, the school is the authority of the local government. The rules are like that," said Teddy at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Friday, February 27.
Teddy detailed the division of authority, namely, high schools are the authority of the governor, while elementary and junior high schools are under the bupati and mayor.
Because the problem has been long-standing and has not been addressed, Teddy said the central government in the era of President Prabowo Subianto encouraged improvements through renovations.
"In fact, in 2025 alone, there are already around 16,000 schools that have been renovated... with a total budget of around Rp. 17 trillion," he said.
The renovation, said Teddy, was supported by the Ministry of Dikdasmen. He also emphasized that data and documentation were available.
"The data is there, the photo is there, you can check," he said.
In addition to physical improvements, Teddy claimed there was a digital learning boost.
The Secretary of State said that by 2025, 280,000 TVs had been distributed for digital learning in 280,000 schools, and would be improved again. Teddy also mentioned plans for Garuda schools, integrated schools, and the construction of new campuses that are underway.
